Boiler cleaning in Stapelfeld: Noise and clouds of steam await residents!
In Stapelfeld, near Hamburg, the cleaning of the new waste incineration plant (incineration plant) is currently causing a stir. Extensive cleaning work will take place from December 10th to 20th, using the steam blowing process, in which high-pressure steam is passed through the boiler pipes. This measure is crucial to remove residues such as sand and cement that have accumulated during construction work. Guido Lücker, the technical director of EEW Stapelfeld, explains that this cleaning ensures that the boiler later works efficiently and that no damage is caused to sensitive turbine blades.
Unusual noise development
The cleaning work is not only important for the functionality of the system, but also has direct consequences for the residents. How LN Online reported, people in the area can expect loud hissing and whistling as the vapor is released into the atmosphere. According to EEW, it can be quite visible when large clouds of steam form. The entire process is carried out daily and takes around 30 minutes each, which will also be noticeable on the traffic flows of the nearby A1 motorway NDR added.
With this work, EEW Energy from Waste GmbH is preparing to put the plant into trial operation in January 2025. The residents have already been asked for their understanding as, despite the silencer, an increased noise level and the visibility of the steam clouds are to be expected. These preparations are necessary to ensure safe and trouble-free operation of the system.
