Hit-and-run in Wels: Drug driver fakes her identity!
On September 15, 2025, there was a rear-end collision on Gleitndorferstrasse in Upper Austria involving a 34-year-old man from Wels and a 30-year-old woman from Wels. The driver of the car was driving east around 12:25 p.m. when the woman turned her vehicle from a parking lot onto the street and collided with him. After the accident, the 30-year-old left the scene of the accident without exchanging her data, which is considered a serious offense in traffic safety.
About 15 minutes after the incident, the woman returned and initially identified herself as her sister. However, during the police check, she was unable to produce a driver's license, which led officers to determine her true identity. As 5min.at reports, it turned out that the 30-year-old did not have a valid driving license.
Reaction of the authorities
A voluntary rapid drug test carried out on the woman was positive. Despite the results, the 30-year-old refused to go to the doctor. This situation is part of a larger problem in road traffic, which, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), has increasingly increased in recent years. In 2024, over 4,000 drug traffic violations were recorded in Germany, prompting authorities to warn about the dangers of drug use behind the wheel, as Rechtundpolitik.com reports.
The 30-year-old woman is being reported for her actions. Police investigations show that drug offenses are becoming an increasing problem, particularly among younger drivers. According to KBA figures, in 2024, 87% of recorded offenders were male, with the majority of offenses occurring among road users aged 25 to 44.
A worrying trend
The increase in such incidents highlights the importance of education and measures to reduce drug abuse on the roads. Younger age groups are particularly affected, highlighting the need to address the dangers of drug use. International Day Against Drug Abuse on June 26 is used to educate the public about the risks and raise awareness.
Traffic authorities are continually working to make roads safer. Current events are a clear indication that much still needs to be done to reduce drug abuse on the roads and promote responsible behavior.
