Esterhazy 2025: Ecstasy and star appearances await visitors!

The Esterhàzy private foundation under the direction of Rico Gulda, who has been a neo-general director since March 1, is relating to an exciting cultural agenda for 2025. Gulda is responsible for an ambitious artistic program that is supposed to master the balancing act between art and economy. Last year, around 600,000 people visited the various Esterhàzy locations, a sign of flourishing cultural tourism in the region. Among the highlights of last season, the acclaimed performance of the opera "AIDA", which attracted 100,000 guests in the St. Margarethen, as well as the autumn gold festival, which recorded 5,000 visitors.

This year the autumn gold festival will take place from September 10th to 21st under the motto "Ecstasy". Director Julian Rachlin will lead the festival, while the Chamber Orchestra of Europe acts as a residence orchestra. The prominent guests include Pianist András Schiff and the star violinist Janine Jansen, who will take part in the opening. Gulda is enthusiastic about this creative approach and sees the opportunity to position Schloss Esterházy as an international music location.

The previous year was also remarkable for the investments that were made since the Esterhàzy foundations were founded in 1994. A total of 250 million euros flowed into cultural tourism and the sustainable development of the region. The festival motto "seduction" was chosen for 2024, which is described by director Rachlin as an "act of seduction". This is intended to underline the musical and emotional depth of the contributions. The artistic highlights include appearances by renowned artists such as Martha Argerich, Sir Bryn Terfel and Gautier Capuçon, the Eisenstadt once again focused on the international cultural world.

The opening concert on September 11th is designed by Martha Argerich with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, whereby works such as Saint-Saëns ’“ Carnival of Animals ”and Haydn's symphonies are performed. Julian Rachlin will also appear as a soloist and conductor at several events.

The motto for 2025 is already certain: "Compromising: together". In addition to Lylit and The Erlkings, numerous stars will appear. A special highlight is announced for 2026: The Berlin Philharmonic will give their European concert under chief conductor Kirill Petenko in Eisenstadt Castle, with the cellist Gautier Capuçon also being part of the party. There are planned performances of Beethoven's 2nd Symphony, Stravinski's "Pulcinella-Suite" and Tchaikovsky's "Variations about a Rococo topic".

The Esterhàzy private foundation not only wants to set musical highlights, but also promote cultural tourism, which is of great importance for the economic and cultural development of the region. According to a study, cultural tourism in Germany alone has generated more than 30 million income, and similar trends can also be observed in Austria that also speak for future investments in the region.
