Electric cars in the ADAC test: VW ID.7 triumphs in the price war!

In 2024, car buyers in Germany faced major challenges due to rising purchase prices and fluctuating costs for fuel and electricity. The ADAC has now tested 84 cars, including 22 petrol, 16 diesel, 29 electric, 16 hybrid and one gas vehicle. What is striking is that the first seven places in the ADAC car test were taken by electric cars. The VW ID.7, a family car, achieved the best rating with an overall score of 1.5. More expensive models, such as the BMW i5 and the Porsche Taycan, could not keep up with the ratings of 1.6 and 1.7.

The second generation Dacia Duster, however, was identified as a test loser and is due to be replaced by a new edition in 2024. In the test, the ADAC evaluated the vehicles based on around 300 criteria, which include fuel consumption, interior size and usability. In the 2024 price-performance comparison, the Renault Clio TCe90 leads with a price of 21,250 euros and a grade of 2.1. Second place is shared by the Škoda Kamiq, the VW Golf, the Kia Picanto and another Renault Clio with hybrid drive. The VW ID.7 Pro, which is offered for 54,000 euros, received a grade of 2.5 in this category. At the same time, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid performed worst with a grade of 3.8.

Environmental assessment and ecotest

The evaluation in the ADAC Ecotest received particular attention, where the Peugeot e-208 reached the top with 105 total points and a consumption of 16.0 kWh/100 km. The Opel Corsa came in second with 103 total points. The CO2 emissions are assessed based on the German electricity mix. The Tesla Model 3 came in fourth place with 100 points, while the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid only plays a minor role due to its high CO2 emissions of 290 mg/km.

In a supplementary report ADAC.de presented the VW ID.7 Pro as the first vehicle in the ADAC car test to receive a “very good” rating. This upper mid-range electric sedan has so far been able to maintain its first place in the ranking list. Buyers are primarily interested in compact electric cars, with the price-performance assessment being crucial for those interested in buying. In comparison, luxury models performed worse in this regard.
