Protect drugs: How to survive intoxicated festival goers
Israel - On October 7, 2023, festival visitors experienced an unimaginable massacre in Israel than the Hamas terrorists attacked the Supernova Festival. A surprising discovery from a study now shows that the drug use of some party guests gave them a psychological advantage. According to neuroscientific researchers who examined more than 650 survivors, two out of three participants had consumed drugs such as MDMA, LSD or marijuana during the robbery. This could have contributed to the fact that they better process the traumatic experiences than the sober. Professor Roy Salomon emphasizes that MDMA in particular could be responsible for this improved coping, since it releases prosocial hormones, reduce fears and strengthen the feeling of connection.
psychological effects and drug use
A survivor of the massacre, Michal Ohana, describes: "I have the feeling that it saved my life that I was so high. It was like I wasn't in the real world." These striking statements underline the complex relationship between drug use and trauma. While the study focused on how drugs helped the participants, research is now also wondering whether and how drug use has influenced the escape opportunities. The results could potentially provide new approaches to psychotherapy, especially in the treatment of post -traumatic stress disorders. Despite the possible advantages, MDMA has so far only been approved for therapeutic purposes in Australia.
Meanwhile, another study from Berlin shows that smoking pot is widespread among young people in the capital. Almost one in three ages 16 to 27 stated that they had consumed cannabis in the past twelve months, with problematic consumption patterns being found in a considerable part of the respondents. After all, less than half of the participants knew that the possession and passing on of cannabis in Germany were punishable without a medical recipe. Berlin's health senator Ina Czyborra lists that Corona pandemic has favored this development. In Germany, the legalization of cannabis is currently being discussed intensively, whereby research is pointing out that better education in the event of consumption and risks is urgently necessary, as the Zeit reports.
