Drama in Wilster: Workshop fire with asbestos danger – 40 firefighters on duty!

In a dramatic incident on Saturday afternoon in Wilster, Steinburg district, a devastating fire broke out in a workshop! An employee who was carrying out welding work on a vehicle at 3:10 p.m. triggered the flames under unclear circumstances. The inferno spread in no time and turned the entire workshop into a blazing inferno!

The fire department arrived quickly, but the situation was dire. Over 40 emergency services not only fought against the flames, but also against an invisible danger: asbestos! The roof of the workshop, made of Eternit panels, could release toxic substances. To protect themselves, firefighters wore FFP2 masks while trying to bring the fire under control.

Warning about toxic substances!

The flames also caused significant damage to an adjacent residential building. Due to the heavy smoke, an urgent warning was issued via the “Nina” warning app. The welder, who was slightly injured in the incident, received immediate medical attention. The subsequent extinguishing work could take a long time while the fire brigade does everything in its power to avert the danger!
