DPD in Austria: Record numbers and booming online shopping!
In 2024, DPD Austria can look back on impressive growth. Over 63.2 million parcels were sent for corporate and private customers - that is more than one million parcels compared to 2023. This increase is not only the result of flourishing e-commerce, but also of record-breaking export business. DPD was able to record an increase of more than 12% in exports. Germany remains the largest export market, followed by France and Italy, where there is significant demand for international deliveries, said DPD managing director Rainer Schwarz.
The increase in private customer business is particularly notable: almost every second parcel transported by DPD is addressed to a private individual. In 2024, more than 31 million packages were delivered to private customers, representing growth of around 11% compared to the previous year. DPD has developed innovative solutions in this area, such as the parcel management app myDPD, which 760,000 Austrians already use. This app allows customers to receive and return their packages flexibly, which takes into account people's changing consumption habits, says Schwarz.
Strong pickup network and significant increase in OOH solutions
Another important development is the increasing demand for “Out of Home” (OOH) solutions. DPD now operates over 3,000 pickup locations in Austria, which represents the largest pickup and returns infrastructure in the country. In 2024, over 7 million parcels were moved across the DPD Pickup network, an increase of 62% compared to the previous year. This form of parcel shipping allows consumers to receive their shipments flexibly while reducing CO2 emissions through more efficient deliveries. DPD began expanding this network over 10 years ago and is now a pioneer in parcel logistics.
With the DPD CLASSIC solution, the company also offers a reliable shipping service in Germany and throughout Europe, which also includes live tracking and insurance. DPD ships parcels to 37 European countries and over 220 countries worldwide, underlining the company's international reach. Through the combination of local know-how and international standards, DPD remains the leading private parcel service in Austria.
