CDU collects record donations - what does that mean for the choice?

The latest developments around the party donations in Germany surprise: The CDU emerged from large donations between November 6 and December 6, 2024 with impressive donations. That reports ZDF. In direct reaction to breaking the traffic light coalition and the subsequent decision to prefer the Bundestag election. Particularly noteworthy: In this one month, the CDU received more donations than all other parties represented in the Bundestag.

If you look at the entire sum since that from the traffic light coalition, there are even a total of 4.4 million euros in large donations in the room, such as Mirror reported. This illustrates how much the political landscapes change in the run -up to the election. A party that is particularly exhausted is the Volt European Portey, which has received a million euros from a single member. Among the Bundestag parties, the FDP takes second place with 820,000 euros, followed by the Greens (245,000 euros), the SPD (220,000 euros), the CSU (100,000 euros) and the BSW (50,000 euros). The left and the AfD, on the other hand, remained completely without donations in the category from 35,000 euros.

The clear reduction of the threshold for donations that are subject to declaration from 50,000 to 35,000 euros also led to a massive increase in large donations. In October 2024, the CDU revenue collected only 292,000 euros before this number increased by more than fifteen times within one month. This shows that parties obviously rely on financial support in the final phase of the election campaign to push their campaigns.
