Federal election in Mettmann: Volunteers wanted for polling stations!
In just 102 days the time has come: the federal election is just around the corner! Preparations in Mettmann are in full swing, and city attorney Richard Bley is optimistic: “Relaxed is different. But I am confident that we will overcome this too.” The election workers are urgently needed because at least 152 volunteers have to be found for the 19 in-person voting stations and four postal voting stations on February 23rd!
The city has already launched a call, and the first brave helpers came forward even before the call was official. Anyone who would like to work as a poll worker must be eligible to vote, be at least 18 years old and ideally live in Mettmann. But this is not absolutely necessary, so interested people from the area can also get in touch.
Challenges of postal voting
Organizing the election is a mammoth task. Bley has already taken the first steps to collect the necessary data from the population register. The increasing popularity of postal voting in particular brings with it additional challenges. Application deadlines and the exact times for postal voting have yet to be determined, and experienced staff are needed to oversee postal voting and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Numerous volunteers have already registered in Erkrath. 280 poll workers are needed here, and the city is confident it can find them. Preparations are already well underway, with orders for materials and forms while ballots are being provided by the county. The legally secure conduct of the election is a top priority and the city administration is prepared to temporarily postpone its usual tasks in order to organize the election successfully.
In Wülfrath, everything is also being done to prepare for the election in the best possible way. Those responsible are in the process of recruiting poll workers, ordering office supplies and compiling a voter register. Time is of the essence and preparations must move forward quickly to guarantee that everything runs smoothly on election day!
