Easter is just around the corner: traffic jams and wave of travel threaten motorways!
München, Deutschland - On April 10, 2025, the upcoming Easter holidays in Austria and the surrounding countries are already throwing their shadows ahead. The holidays begin on Saturday, April 12th, and extend until Tuesday, April 22nd. During this time, a significant increase in traffic is expected, especially in the vacation regions. West-east and north-south connections are particularly affected, as many people travel to their home countries in Southeast Europe or break into the Alpine region for relaxation. ASFINAG reports that there is a strong travel wave on the A 8 Innkreis, A 1 West, A 21 Wiener External Ring, A 4 Ostautobahn, A 10 Tauern- and A 9 pyhrnache.
In these weeks, the winter season of some ski areas will also be ended due to the low snow conditions. In the western Austria, however, some larger areas remain open to the Easter weekend. The traffic challenges are additionally reinforced by the existing number of long -term construction sites that are maintained by ASFINAG. However, daily construction sites during the travel wave are exposed.
traffic forecast and traffic jams
Special caution should be car drivers on the A 10 at Golling to throw and on the A 9 near Kirchdorf and chambers, as strong traffic jams and disabilities can be expected here. On Maundy Thursday, the wave of travel on the western spreads towards Hungary as well as on the Pyhrnautobahn and Tauernautobahn begins. Good Friday is a holiday in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
Another increase in traffic is expected on Easter Monday and on school -free Easter Tuesday when many return travelers return from their excursions. The border controls that have become necessary due to the mouth and claw disease could also affect the flow of traffic. This could be noticeable, especially at the borders to Slovakia and Hungary, where restrictions can probably be expected until May 20th.
