Versatile talents: Carinthia's track and field athletes conquer the podium!
LC Villach can look back on an impressive season! The athlete Stefanie Kurath provided a brilliant highlight with her bronze medal in the half marathon and is undoubtedly one of the best runners in the middle and long distances. The 4×100 meter team, consisting of Sebastian Mayer, Fabian Grassl, Valentin Liebhard and Jakub Zembaty, also surprised the competition and secured bronze at the U23 championships. The strong performance shows the high quality of the club's promotion of young talent.
Successes of young people
Valentin Liebhard triumphed at the U18 championships in Eisenstadt, where he won gold in the 800 meters and bronze in the 1500 meters. In the U16 class, Sebastian Kofler contributed silver in the 1000 and 3000 meters. In addition, the girls' teams demonstrated their strength by winning silver in cross-country running and all-around competition - further proof of the outstanding youth work at LC Villach. The master athletes also presented themselves brilliantly, especially Angelo Quaglia, who became runner-up in the world championships at the marathon in Romania and won gold as a team.
An exciting highlight in the world of marathon running is the Berlin Marathon, which is considered one of the fastest of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. After the first mass event in 1974, which was launched by Horst Milde, the marathon in Berlin has become an icon. This route has seen marathon world records set nearly a dozen times and not only offers a sporting challenge, but also reflects the history of a reunified nation. Günter Hallas, the first winner, mastered the course with an impressive run of 2:44 hours - at a time when the event was still taking place in the western half of Berlin.
The developments at LC Villach contrast with the roots of the Berlin Marathon, which continues to attract athletes from all over the world and provides the city with a significant platform for running. While the focus will be on the renovation of the Lind Stadium in Villach next year, participation in national and international competitions will continue to be promoted. Both Villach and Berlin impressively show how passionately and successfully running is practiced in both cities.
