Israel reports: Bibas boys among the dead returned by Hamas

The Israeli authorities identified two of the corpses returned by Hamas on Thursday as Ariel and Kfir Bibas. However, tests show that the third, awaited Leichnam, which was assigned to the mother Shiri, does not belong to her and does not fit another Israeli hostage victim.

Investigations and allegations against Hamas

The Israeli army also announced that forensic evidence and information indicate that the boys were murdered. In a statement, the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IDF) explained: "This is a serious violation by the terrorist organization of Hamas, which, according to the agreement, is obliged to return four deceased hostages. We demand that Hamas Shiri bring back with all our hostages."

progress in the return of hostages

Despite these developments, the IDF stated that the plans for releasing further six hostages will probably remain unchanged on Saturday. CNN asked Hamas to comment.

Details on the identity of the corpse

Already on Thursday Hamas handed over four corpses to Israel, which allegedly belonged to three members of the Bibas family and Oded Lifshitz, who was 83 years old when he was kidnapped on October 7, 2023 together with his wife in Kibbutz Nir OZ. Dr. Chen Kugel, the head of the National Center for Forensic Medicine in Israel, confirmed at a press conference that one of the four corpses was Lifshitz, but did not comment on the Bibas family.

appeal to the international community

After the announcement by the IDF, the Israeli UN ambassador Danny danon called the United Nations to condemn "the barbarism of Hamas" and "an immediate demand for the return of Shiri to her family". He explained: "There are no words that can describe such an atrocities. Hamas not only murdered Ariel and Kfir Bibas cold -blooded - a four -year -old boy and a ten -month -old baby - but still violates any fundamental moral value even after her death."

The shattering history of the Bibas family

The father of the children, Yarden Bibas, was released by Hamas at the beginning of this month after being captured for 484 days. He was one of the 19 Israeli hostages that were released alive as part of the ceasefire in January 2025.

The Bibas family, especially Kfir, has become one of the best -known victims of the terrorist attacks on October 7th. At only 9 months, Kfir was kidnapped as the youngest hostage -taker in the Gaza Strip and is the youngest who was killed. A photo of him as he holds a pink elephant toy and looks directly into the camera with a toothless smile, was used in numerous campaigns and protests worldwide.

public attention and solidarity

his brother Ariel, who was only 4 years old at the time of the attack, was often shown in a photo that was taken after a haircut while he was still wrapped in the hub of the hairdresser. Earlier photos of the family showed Ariel, a big fan of Batman, with long red curls.

This picture was shown on large screens at Times Square in New York, printed on T-shirts of protesters in London, Berlin and other cities and brought to the stage of Israel's President Isaac Duke during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Symbol of brutality

A video of the kidnapping of the Bibas family became a symbol for the brutality of the terrorist attack on October 7th. It showed a frightened shiri who was anxious to her children, who were wrapped in a blanket, clung while Ariel continued to suck his pacifier.
