Another attacks on Tesla: Italy increases security in car dealerships!

In the night of Monday, there was a devastating fire on the premises of a Tesla dealer in Rome, in which 17 vehicles were destroyed and a few more damaged. The dealer's showroom was also affected by the flames. The Italian authorities do not rule out arson for the time being, which is why the Interior Ministry of Italy is now deciding on security measures for a total of 13 Tesla car dealerships in the country. The affected shops are mainly in Milan, Florence and Rome and are managed directly by the US mother company. Stricter guard is now to be implemented, since the fears increase, the car dealerships could be the target of anarchist attacks. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi expressed that an attack by anarchist groups cannot be excluded. In the past, there have been protests in the USA in which Tesla vehicles were set on fire. Four Teslas burned in Berlin under similar circumstances a week ago.

In addition to the occurrences in Italy, the Tesla plant in Brandenburg was affected, where a suspected arson attack on a current mast brought the production of the only European Tesla factory to a standstill. This leads to an estimated loss of several hundred million euros for the company. The State Criminal Police Office has investigated because there is an arson. In a letter of confession, the left -wing extremist "volcanic group" condemned the attack and calls for the "complete destruction of the gigafactory", whereby the Tesla group accuses of extreme exploitation conditions. The production of the vehicles has been quiet for at least this week, and more than 12,000 employees are currently not employed. The high -voltage mast was deliberately set on fire, which also impaired the power supply for the surrounding communities. However, the supply lines have now been restored.

safety precautions and social reactions

In view of the multitude of attacks on Tesla facilities, the discussion about the safety of car dealerships and factories becomes more intensive. Safety measures and stricter guard are essential in view of the ongoing attacks. Interior Minister of Brandenburg, Michael Stübgen, described the attack on the electricity infrastructure as a perfidious act. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser sentenced the attacks on the Tesla locations as a serious crime. The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, reacted on the social network X and described the perpetrators as "stupidest ecological terrorists".

legal aspects of arson

The legal consequences for arson are clearly defined in Germany. The Criminal Code (StGB) distinguishes various types of arson, which range from simple to particularly serious arson. The punishments are staggered according to the severity of the offense:

  • simple arson (§ 306 StGB): prison sentence of 1 to 10 years.
  • serious arson (§ 306a StGB): at least 1 year imprisonment.
  • particularly serious arson (§ 306b StGB): at least 2 years, up to 5 years in certain circumstances.
  • arson with death sequence (§ 306c StGB): lifelong imprisonment or at least 10 years.
  • negligent arson (§ 306d StGB): prison sentence up to 5 years or fine.

The incidents not only show the challenges in front of which Tesla is facing, but also the social tensions that arise from resistance to the expansion of the Gigafactory in Brandenburg. The state government is already checking whether the protest camp of the environmental activists near the factory has to be re -evaluated according to the recent events.
