Rohrauerpark shines new: climate math oasis for hot summer days!

Rohrauerpark, 1150 Wien, Österreich - On April 17, 2025, the Rohrauerpark in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus experienced a comprehensive redesign, which is part of the city's “livable climate pattern city” program. This project aims to improve the quality of stay in urban rooms, especially in view of the increasing temperatures during the summer months. The redesign includes a variety of measures to make the park more environmentally friendly and more attractive.

The essential elements of the redesign include three new tree plantings that not only beautify the park, but also contribute to a better microclimate. A total of 388 m² area was sealed to promote the infiltration of rainwater and thus reduce the effects of heavy rain events. Furthermore, bright floor coverings were laid to 489 m², which serve to reduce heating in the event of sunlight.

A special highlight of the project is a new water feature on 30 m², which is equipped with sensor-activated spray and fog jostles. This initiative is intended to offer children fun and at the same time contribute to cooling for hot days. In addition, 187 m² of grass and perennial beds were created to create the living space and food for insects that are crucial for biodiversity in urban areas.

Due to the city's investments, which will provide 20 million euros annually for climate adjustment measures as part of a funding program by 2025, not only to existing parks such as the Rohrauerpark. Other projects such as the Paula-von-Mirtow-Park in Meidling and the Ludwig-Zatzka-Park at the S-Bahn station Breitensee are also being planned to promote the urban grassland.
