Scandal in Augsburg: Minister of Justice talks about prisoner abuse!
A shocking scandal shakes the Augsburg-Gablingen correctional facility! Serious allegations for possible prisoner abuse come to light, and the Bavarian Minister of Justice Georg Eisenreich (CSU) faces enormous pressure. In a press release on October 31, he admitted that his ministry had been informed about the serious allegations for a year that were even torture in the room. "If such allegations are made to a rule of law, this shakes the trust," said Eisenreich, and demanded a comprehensive clarification of the incidents.
The situation escalated when it became known that the public prosecutor's office was investigating ten suspects, including the deputy head of the institution and nine other employees. It is about possible assault offenses and assault on prisoners. The allegations are alarming: prisoners may have been housed in particularly secure detention rooms, without the legal requirements being met. In order to facilitate the information, the head of the prison was temporarily suspended, although there is no disciplinary procedure against them.
Investigations in progress
The public prosecutor has set up a special investigation group and has already secured extensive evidence. While the suspended deputy director vehemently denies the allegations, her lawyers demand that the Ministry of Justice should no longer act as a supervisory authority. Eisenreich emphasized that the presumption of innocence applies and that the majority of the over 6000 employees do an exemplary work in the enforcement service. Nevertheless, the question remains how these serious allegations could occur and what consequences this will have for the prison.
