ALZENAU. A 20-year-old man from Alzenau is at the center of a shocking fraud case that is keeping the police on tenterhooks! The Darmstadt public prosecutor's office has exposed him as the suspected head of an unscrupulous gang of con artists who targeted unsuspecting car salesmen.
The gang, operating under the code name “Petros Vassios,” faked fake transfers. The perfidious scam: Car sellers believed that the money was already in their account and then handed over their vehicles. But the fraudsters disappeared with the cars, and the sellers were left high and dry!
Exposure in Messel: The case comes to light
The gang's criminal activities came to light in July when the Alzenauer and an accomplice tried to steal a mobile home in Messel. A targeted investigation ultimately led to his arrest. Yesterday the handcuffs clicked for the mastermind, who is now in custody. But that's not all: his accomplices were also discovered! In Cologne and Mörfelden-Walldorf, the police searched several apartments and further targeted the gang.
The public prosecutor's office and the criminal police are now in the process of uncovering the full extent of these fraud cases. Car sellers who have also fallen victim to such schemes are asked to report to the police. The case has the potential to unearth many more fraud victims!
