Terrible accident in Mellau: 70-year-old dies in frontal collision!

On September 7, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on the state road 200 near Mellau. At around 2:45 p.m., a 66-year-old driver from Baden-Württemberg got on the oncoming lane for an unknown cause and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle whose 70-year-old driver came from the Bregenz district. The 70-year-old still succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

The accident site is located near the "Enbrücke", at street kilometers 34.02 of Bregenzerwaldstrasse. The passenger of the 70-year-old driver was flown to the State Hospital Feldkirch after the first aid with serious injuries. The 66-year-old driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, was freed from the fire brigade using serious equipment and also transported seriously injured to the Feldkirch State Hospital. His passenger was able to free himself independently and was admitted to the State Hospital in Bregenz with injuries of an indefinite degree.

Rescue measures and emergency services

The fire brigades Mellau, Schnepfau, Au and Egg were on site for the rescue and recovery measures with a total of ten vehicles. They received support from several rescue and emergency medical vehicles and two emergency helicopters. The police were in use with several strips to secure the scene of the accident. The state road 200 remained completely closed until 7:15 p.m. to enable the clean -up work and ensure the totally damaged vehicles. The serious traffic accident was not the only incident that day, which underlined the alarming road safety situation in Vorarlberg. According to reports, a car was drilled by a fallen tree in another place in the region, but the driver of this vehicle only missed seriously serious injuries.
