Rülke fights for FDP: coalition plans and lowest poll numbers!
The political landscape in Baden-Württemberg is seething! FDP parliamentary group leader Hans-Ulrich Rülke is sending a clear message: He is firmly against a coalition with the Greens in order to minimize their influence. Rülke suggests leading the FDP into a civil coalition in the upcoming state elections in 2026, which could consist of a black-yellow government alliance or cooperation with the SPD. In his criticism of the Greens' migration policy, he sees a "mobilization program" for the AfD and expresses his concerns about the Greens' climate policy.
Survey shows polarized voters' will
However, the Greens have surprisingly recovered in favor of voters and have increased to 22 percent in a recent survey - an increase of four points since October. This is shown by the survey carried out by Infratest dimap on behalf of the SWR. While the CDU remains at the top with 33 percent, the FDP is at just 4 percent, its lowest level in over ten years, which further complicates Rülke's position. Cem Özdemir, whose popularity among voters has risen to 49 percent, is the Green Party's designated top candidate. Trust in the political leadership is clearly strained, as 38 percent of voters identify the economic crisis as the most pressing problem.
For the FDP, it will be crucial how the surveys develop until the state elections in spring 2026, especially since the party received 10.5 percent of the vote in 2021. Despite the weak result, Rülke is considering the option of working with the Greens if this is necessary to contain the AfD. The challenges are enormous, but Rülke remains optimistic and is planning his application for the state chairmanship next year.
The political fronts are hardening and the voters have clear expectations! The next state election will be the decisive test for all parties.
