Work victory for Schwäbisch Hall: three points, but no gala!
A hard-fought victory! The Sportfreunde Schwäbisch Hall triumphed with a narrow 1-0 win against VfL Pfullingen at the Optima Sports Park on Saturday. The bottom team, who have been waiting for a win for nine games, couldn't hold a candle to Haller. Daniel Martin scored the decisive goal shortly before half-time, securing the important three points for the hosts.
“It wasn’t a treat today,” said Pfullingen’s coach Yasin Yilmaz after the game. And the 350 spectators could only agree with him. The Hall team showed a below-average performance, but the three points are crucial. With 20 points from 13 games, the Sportfreunde climb to 7th place, but the gap to the promotion places remains large.
A game full of chances and misfortunes
The first half was characterized by bad decisions and missed opportunities. Pfullingen's Christian Locher had several opportunities, but he failed miserably. The Hall team also couldn't take advantage of their chances until the golden goal finally came. Sascha Esau started dribbling in the penalty area and Jannik Dannhäßer took the opportunity to spoon the ball to Daniel Martin, who hit the far corner with a header.
The game didn't get any better in the second half. The Hall team were unable to use their counterattacks consistently and had to fear for victory until the last minute. Goalkeeper Nico Purtscher made a spectacular save in the 78th minute and thus prevented the equalizer. "The three points were the most important thing today. We have to work on our weaknesses in training," said coach Thorsten Schift after the game.
