New School Foundry” project starts: MINT funding for young people!

The kick-off event for the project “The school foundry for the Holzminden district” took place on January 6, 2025 as part of the educational initiative “#HolzMINT.net – MINT-making in the region”. The project, which combines theory and practice in the foundry industry, is organized by Rainer Koß, the education manager at KVHS Holzminden. Chemex Foundry Solutions GmbH and GET-IN-FORM delivered ten container boxes with foundry material to the Weser/Solling production school.

Various presentations were made during the kick-off meeting. Martin Lauter from Chemex provided information about productivity and sustainability in the metal foundry. Achim Krause from the Albertus Foundation highlighted the historical significance and future prospects of the foundry industry. The participants also received practical training from metal casting experts Wolfgang Woitak and Bernhard Henke. Here they learned how to use a melting furnace, molds and the post-processing of castings.

Focus and future planning

The school foundry is aimed at children and young people from grade 5 onwards. The topics include computer aided design (CAD), 3D printing, post-processing and the marketing of products by a student company. There are also plans to set up a casting company, which will take place on a regular basis.

This long-term project aims to promote technical knowledge, creativity and teamwork as well as to support young talent and skilled trades in the region. In addition, the metal foundries in the region should be supported in recruiting young talent Beverunger Rundschau and TAH reported.
