The formation of a new government in Austria is on the brink! While the Austro-Stampel, consisting of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS, forms, current surveys of today that the population is skeptical. An alarming result: 55 percent of those surveyed do not trust the triple coalition solutions in migration policy. Despite the agreement in some areas of the negotiations, there are still no concrete measures. This split within the electorate raises questions about the credibility of the traffic light coalition.

Skepticism is reinforced by the failure of the German traffic light coalition, which also affects the domestic negotiations, such as Ö24 reported. The exploratory talks pause until Monday and the uncertainty about the appropriate third coalition partner remains. Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) confirmed that the path to unification was rocky. Exciting topics such as the exploding deficit of up to 4.1 percent of GDP for 2025 make the starting position even more complicated, especially for the SPÖ, which does not want to identify. Both parties disagree on how to implement savings and where new income should come from.

The discussion about whether a classic two-person coalition or the inclusion of a third partner makes sense. The ÖVP would prefer to be at the table with the NEOS, while the SPÖ could possibly prefer the Greens. In the meantime, the criticism of the FPÖ is growing, which campaigns for a stable two coalition under their leadership. So far, the parties have not agreed, and the next few days will be crucial to find out whether and how content -related agreements can be achieved.
