Refurbishment of the Technical Collections Dresden: Finally new life!
Dresden-Striesen, Deutschland - Dresden plans extensive renovation of the technical collections
In a crucial step, the city council of Dresden approved the financing for the renovation of the Technical Collections Dresden (TSD). On the occasion of the meeting on Thursday, a total budget of 13.9 million euros was set, 6 million euros from a federal funding program. The need was obvious: Windows in the former Ernemann plant are so dilapidated that they have to be secured with nets to prevent the falling of glass, and fire protection no longer corresponds to the current standards, such as Dnn.de reported.
The technical collections have an eventful history. The building in Dresden-Striesen, built by Heinrich Ernemann in 1898, originally served to produce photographic apparatus. In 1993 it was converted into a museum that is devoted to the recent technology history of the Dresden economy and shows numerous exhibits on around 3000 m². The complete renovation should not only include the energy -efficient design of the building, but also modernize the structural and digital systems. The current state is alarming: The inner courtyard has been closed for years due to the acute risk of collapse, which underlines the urgency of the measures, such as Academic.ru
focus on energy efficiency and fire protection
A central goal of the renovation is to improve energy efficiency, since the building is currently one of the highest operating costs within the city. If technically possible, solar systems should even be installed on the roof. In addition, all systems for heat generation and distribution must be renewed in order to meet today's requirements. Roland Schwarz, the director of the TSD, emphasizes the "acute emergency", which is caused by the dilapidated windows and insufficient fire protection. Analogous to the overall renovation, accessibility is also part of the future plan so that the museum is accessible to all visitors.
The facilities that were planned years ago with the need for optimization now show the need for comprehensive renovation. The beginning of the construction work has not yet been determined, but the view of a complete institution gives hope to revive an important historical location and to expand the range of the museum in education and technology significantly. It is to be hoped that the technical collections can open their doors in the near future.
