New educational campus in Vienna: A place for education and community!
The city of Vienna is once again sending a strong signal for the education of the future with the “Seestadt Aspern III educational campus”. The Vienna City Council has decided to expand the campus, which will be built in Vienna's largest urban development area and will offer space for 1,600 students and around 220 educators. Jörg Neumayer, SPÖ local councilor and education spokesman, is enthusiastic about this project, which not only includes schools, but also event rooms, gyms and open spaces that will benefit the entire neighborhood. “We in Vienna don’t just build schools, we create places that connect education, community and the future,” emphasized Neumayer, as in a report by ots.at.
Extensive educational offerings
The new premises on the Seestadt Aspern III educational campus will create 58 classrooms, including 13 kindergarten groups, 33 classes for all-day care and 12 special education classes. This is part of a long-term strategy to continuously expand the educational area in Vienna. The Seestadt Aspern, a showcase project for participatory urban development, will be supplemented by significantly expanded educational facilities by 2025. More than 25,000 people are expected to live there by the 2030s, and in addition to the educational campus, other educational offerings such as a youth center and places to learn and play will also be created. The existing campus also already includes an all-day elementary school and special classes for children with disabilities, reports campus-seestadt.at.
The construction site covers 18,500 m² and the city expects costs of around 13.3 million euros for project preparation and planning. An architectural competition will be held by May 2025 to determine the best ideas for the design of the new educational campus. “This investment in our children is an investment in the future of our city,” Neumayer concluded his explanations, while impressively underlining the vision for a modern educational landscape in Vienna.
