A computer game about the Landshut is supposed to process German autumn
A new learning project in Friedrichshafen will digitally prepare the history of the kidnapped Lufthansa machine "Landshut". The development of an associated computer game was awarded to the Berlin studio "Paintbucket Games", which receives an order volume of 400,000 euros. This project, which is under the title "Democratic Caum: The Landshut in Friedrichshafen", is under the roof of the Federal Center for Political Education (BPB), which was commissioned to make the "Landshut" publicly accessible in 2020.
The "Landshut" was kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists in 1977 with 86 passengers, and the subsequent events are among the most striking moments in German post -war history. GSG 9 freed the hostages after several days in Mogadishu, Somalia. The machine's wreck has been in a hangar in Friedrichshafen since 2017 and was moved to Hall Q at Friedrichshafen Airport in October 2022. In this context, an exhibition is to be created by the end of 2026.
content of the game and project scope
The computer game that bears the working title "6 Weeks" is designed as a "historical crisisimulation game" and will address the perspective of the security authorities during the events of "German autumn" in 1977. Socio -political issues are to be treated and references to the topics of the project are to be made. The game will have fictional figures act in a real -historical environment and is part of a comprehensive "analog and digital educational package".
The production of the game begins in early 2025. Paintbucket Games prevailed against 41 other studios that had participated in the tender since March 2024. A jury of BPB employees and industry experts selected the concept of Paintbucket Games according to criteria such as game mechanics, narrative and audiovisual design.
In addition, the project is remarkable because it represents the first games of games with a substantial scope within the framework of such a project. The "Landshut" has been kept in the hall on Lake Constance since October 2024, where the "democracy room" is to be created.
