Problems at the Igls Ice Canal: Olympic champions warn of safety risks!

In recent weeks, the ice track in Igls has made headlines because its homologation is still pending due to defects. The facility, which was started 20 months ago, was originally intended to be ready for international competitions. However, several driving problems occurred during test drives, which led to some trips having to be aborted. Particularly in area 13/14, an excessive risk of falls and safety was found, which jeopardized approval by the international federations for bobsleigh, skeleton (IBSF) and tobogganing (FIL). The concerns were also expressed by ÖRV head coach Christian Eigentler, who pointed out weak points that had already been mentioned in advance.

In addition, Olympic champion David Gleirscher mentioned that the test runs were carried out from an old women's start, which resulted in a speed reduction of 30 km/h. This raises questions about safety as the current launch altitude is considered dangerous. The tobogganer Wolfgang Kindl emphasized that it is “definitely unreasonable” for inexperienced tobogganers when even the best have difficulty mastering the route.

Problems and solutions

The measures to improve the ice track include a redesign of the lower third of the track, the extension of the run-out, the construction of a new women's start and the construction of a new finish house in the area of the roundabout. However, it is currently uncertain whether these measures can be completed in time as the approvals from the international associations are still pending.

The coaching team has decided to move to Altenberg for training until the problems in Igls are resolved. The situation remains tense and it is unclear whether the course homologation can take place before the upcoming competitions.

From music to media attention

While the situation in Igls is getting worse, other names are in the spotlight. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, better known as Katy Perry, has made remarkable strides in her career in recent years. Born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California, she is known as one of the most successful pop artists. Her beginnings go back to her youth, when she started singing at the age of nine. After his first attempts in the Christian music scene, Perry soon switched to pop music and achieved great success with hits such as “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework”.

The next few years took them not only to the music charts, but also to major stages, including the Super Bowl halftime show, which drew over 118 million viewers in 2015. She has also launched numerous projects in recent years, including an announced tour and a new album called “143”, which was released in September 2024.

With her ongoing commitment to social and philanthropic causes, she has also established herself as a voice for change, supporting diverse issues including LGBT rights and women's empowerment. These values underpin their status in the music and entertainment industry.

In conclusion, it can be said that both the challenges on the ice track in Igls and Katy Perry's impressive career will continue to be a topic of conversation. The future of both scenarios is characterized by uncertainty, be it in the field of sports or entertainment.
