Dramatic bridge jump: passers-by save man from train tracks!

On Friday evening, December 13, 2024, a dramatic incident occurred at the bridge between Steinhammerstrasse and Overhoffstrasse in Dortmund. A man who was apparently sleeping on a concrete ledge fell from a height of around eight meters directly onto the Deutsche Bahn tracks. Passers-by who observed the incident initially tried to wake him up and get him out of the danger zone. But while they were talking to him, he suddenly fell into the depths, like both City report as well as that Soester Anzeiger reported.

The surrounding witnesses immediately called the emergency number and managed to get the injured man off the track to safety in time. The arriving rescue workers from the fire and rescue services stabilized him directly on the track bed before train traffic on the affected route was stopped and the power supply to the overhead lines was interrupted to ensure a safe rescue. Due to the darkness and the steep descent from the bridge, it was decided to use special rope technology for rescue, which is why the height rescue unit was called in to help.

Rescue with rope technology

This special unit set up a rope system over the turntable ladder to get the injured person safely and quickly onto the street. After the man was successfully rescued, he was immediately transported to the accident clinic for further medical treatment. However, information about the severity of his injuries has not been released. Emergency responders showed remarkable speed and professionalism to assist in this tense situation, while passers-by made a crucial contribution to the man's life by taking immediate action to save him.
