New center LAB65: Vienna fights against youth homelessness!
The new LAB65 center was opened in Vienna on March 5, 2025, which focuses on supporting young homeless people. The Vienna Social Fund (FSW) has worked with experts to develop an innovative concept to make it easier for young adults aged 17 to 27 to enter the job market. Councilor for Social Affairs Peter Hacker explained that LAB65 aims to break the spiral of homelessness at an early stage and to promote a self-determined lifestyle. Individual advice, coaching and networking are intended to create new perspectives for those affected, as reported on the APA-OTS website.
New center for young homeless people
The LAB65 will function as a competence center that meaningfully complements the existing offerings of the Vienna Homeless Aid. The focus is primarily on young people who live in homeless shelters or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The close connection between homelessness and unemployment should be broken through targeted support. “We are faced with the challenge that many young people come from difficult backgrounds and often do not have completed training,” explained district leader Markus Rumelhart. The desired synergies with LAB65 are intended to open up educational and employment prospects for young people.
At the same time, the waff (Vienna Employee Promotion Fund) keeps an eye on developments on the Vienna labor market. Vienna has experienced a significant increase in employment in recent years. The growth is particularly evident in the service sector, where tens of thousands of new jobs have been created. Despite a positive overall picture, certain groups, including young people, still face challenges. The apprenticeship gap and the structural disadvantage of certain population groups remain problematic, even if unemployment has been significantly reduced in recent years, as waff reports.
The LAB65 offers low-threshold access to education and labor market integration. A team of experts will provide individual support to young apartment and job seekers with the aim of sustainably improving their chances on the job market. The implementation of this initiative is particularly important not only to offer young people a roof over their heads, but also to integrate them into society and enable them to lead a self-determined life.
