New SPÖ leader Max Lercher: Let's take back the workers!

A change in leadership is looming in the Styrian SPÖ: Max Lercher, the former federal managing director and known for his striking statements, is taking over the helm from Anton Lang. Lercher prevailed at the meeting of the Styrian state party executive committee with 87 percent of the votes the press reported. He is the face of a new generation within the party that is facing the challenges of being in opposition and, above all, wants to win back the trust of workers. After all, the FPÖ has gained a foothold and seems to have made many voters in this group dissatisfied.

Reorientation of the Tyrolean SPÖ

Meanwhile, the Tyroleans, under the leadership of Philip Wohlgemuth, are facing a clear change of course. Wohlgemuth, who now chairs the Tyrolean SPÖ, confirmed in one APA interview that there was no need for major changes to the existing resolutions. The voice of the SPÖ should remain strong, especially on important social policy issues. The issue of integration in particular should be actively addressed, with faster German courses and positive measures for asylum seekers on the agenda in order to promote social participation.

Wohlgemuth points out that the cooperation with the ÖVP should remain stable. His goal is to strengthen unity within the SPÖ and the state government, while Lercher focuses on the challenges in the opposition. Both new leadership positions come in an exciting context, with Lercher wanting to restore his party's credibility, while Wohlgemuth advocates stability and efficient integration measures.
