Viennese gastronomy in the crisis: uncountable companies shortly before bankruptcy!

Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - The economic situation in Vienna is worrying. As the Viennese FPÖ chairman Dominik Nepz announced in a current press conference, the measures of the red-pink city government have had a dramatic decline in the economy in recent years. According to the NPP, the city government systematically saved on business development and gave numerous companies, especially in the catering trade, to ruin. Gastronomy businesses in Vienna were completely closed for a total of 271 days during the Corona pandemic, which is a negative record.

NPP calls for the establishment of an urban society that is intended to support the companies concerned with financial resources. The necessary funds are to flow from the reserves of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, which are 1.2 billion euros nationwide. "There will never be a complete reparation. But we have to save many companies from bankruptcy to secure jobs," said Nepp. Economic expert Gerald Zmuegg estimated that a third of the bankruptcy cases in Vienna in 2024 are direct consequences of the lockdown measures.

City government strengthens newly structured business groups

While the FPÖ is on the serious economic consequences of Corona policy of the city government, the city parliament under Mayor Michael Ludwig has decided on a new business group. This restructuring aims to make the administration more efficient and to concentrate specifically on business, finance and work, with international relationships also focus. The newly closed business groups should improve the interaction between the various magistrate's agencies and the challenges of the Viennese economy.

With a variety of city's own services and a clear division of tasks, the city government hopes to invalidate the critical voices of the opposition. However, these restructuring are controversial and could be perceived as inadequate in view of the current economic emergency. As the Vienna city government reported, the new structures should help to offer companies a sustainable perspective through better support. The challenges are great, and the coming months will be crucial for the recovery of the Vienna Economy, while the FPÖ continues to urge comprehensive measures to support the battered companies.
