First election of a woman as an ÖGB state women's chairman in Tyrol!

Tirol, Österreich - In a historical election, Tyrolean Sonja Föger-Kalchschmied could now be the first woman to head for a ÖGB federal state organization. Recently, the previous chairman Philip Wohlgemuth, who was also elected as 1st deputy governor, resigned in the ÖGB Tyrol. This made a new election necessary, which took place today at 11 a.m., in which Föger-Kalchschmied was elected as one of six deputy state chairman as the new state women's chairman, as tirol.orf reported.

The choice was a complete success: Föger-Kalchschmied received 100 percent of the votes from the delegates present. In her new role, she would like to campaign for the compatibility of family and work as well as the support of female employees. She follows Karin Brennsteiner, who no longer competed for election after almost four years. Föger-Kalchschmied brings extensive experience as chairman of the works council of Lebenshilfe Tyrol and emphasizes the importance of advocates for interests. She is planning initiatives to promote equality of women, such as oegb.at reported.

A central concern of Föger-Kalchschmied is the shortening of working hours with full wages and personnel compensation. Women in particular would benefit significantly from this measure, since many work in part -time jobs and thus have lower income and poorer ascent options. It calls for women in particular to actively contribute the trade union work and stand up for their rights. Tirol's ÖGB chairman Wohlgemuth praised the work of Brennsteiner and was optimistic about the future under Föger-Kaleschmied, which, according to him, will continue the tradition of a strong advocacy.
