Magalí Herrera: For the first time in German -speaking countries in the Gugging Museum!

Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - In the Museum Gugging, an impressive retrospective of the Uruguayan artist Magalí Herrera (1914–1992) will take place in 2025, which is shown under the title "Herrera & Dubuffet.! A Spark of Light in this World" from August 3, 2025. This exhibition is the first of its kind in German -speaking countries and offers over 80 works by the autodidactic artist. Herrera passionately corresponded to Jean Dubuffet, the founder of the concept of brood. In one of his letters, Dubuffet expressed his admiration for Herrera by writing: "My dear friend Magalí Herrera, you feel the desire to be a spark of light in this world, and that's exactly what you are". This correspondence, which took place in Paris in the late 1960s, opened Herrera for her artistic work and is presented together with the exhibited works, such as Gugging

A look at Roger Ballen

In addition to Herrera's works, the Museum Gugging will also present the exhibition "Roger Ballen.! Drawing Retrospective" from September 25, 2025 to February 2026. Bale, a photographer living in South Africa, has developed from narrative photography to art that is increasingly shaped by drawings. This development reflects the variety of creation and the boundaries between photography and other art forms - a topic that is also anchored in the art of gugging. Both exhibitions invite visitors to a unique examination of the artistic vision of the respective artists and show the dynamic connection between communication and creativity, such as OTS reported.
