Lama Edie is urgently looking for a loving home - without fear of spitting!
In the Vösendorf animal shelter, animal protection Austria has taken up a very unusual lama: Edie, only four years old, shows striking behavioral problems that are due to an unexpected attitude in the past. He is a truly rare case in the world of Lamas - while he remains peaceful towards people, he shows himself aggressive to other lamas and attacks them. "We have already looked after many lamas, but none that is not spit and socially incompatible with fellow species," explains Stephan Scheidl, the animal welfare manager of Tierschutz Austria, and describes Edie as a challenge, but also as a hope for a better home.
Edie currently lives together with sheep, geese and calves on a paddock in the shelter. The experts are working intensively to find a suitable place for him where he has the chance to improve his social behavior. This behavioral complaint is known as a "rare exception" in the shelter, since Lamas usually have a sociable being and spit on the ranking within the herd. "We are looking for experienced pet owners with patience and expertise for Edie," continued Scheidl. "In any case, you don't have to be afraid of one: Edie doesn't spit!"
The animal shelter team is confident that they will find suitable owners who can help Edie. "Yes, I was always afraid of spitting Lama. But with the necessary specialist knowledge it was clear that this fear, at least as a person, is mostly unfounded," notes Scheidl, and thus raises hope that Edies could not only bring a better attitude but also new friends.
