Israel examines photos of alleged female hostages from Hamas
Israel has announced that it has published the authenticity of photos that Hamas has published and that allegedly show the body of a female hostage in the Gaza Strip. During his weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel could not verify the pictures at that time.
solidarity with the families concerned
"We are in contact with the family and a corresponding message was issued to all affected families. Our sympathy is with you," says Netanyahu. He emphasized that the Israeli government has undertaken to bring all the hostages back, including those who died.
Hamas claims Geisel is dead
The Prime Minister stated that he spoke to the mother of the supposedly affected hostage. "It is difficult to describe which nightmare she is going through. We hug you and your family," he said.
The military department of Hamas claimed on Saturday that a female hostage was killed in an area in northern Gaza that was "under Israeli aggression". The identity of the hostage was not announced, but two photos of the body were published. Israel has not yet commented on the circumstances of the alleged death.
background of the hostage -taking
On October 7, 2023, more than 250 people were taken hostages, and around 1,200 people were killed in the attacks guided by Hamas. Some hostages were saved in the following weeks, and in November 2023 over 100 hostages were released as part of a short-lived hostage and ceasefire agreement.
Current situation of hostages
According to the Israeli authorities, around 101 hostages are still in custody in the Gaza Strip, 97 of which were kidnapped on October 7th. At least 34 of the hostages that were taken on this day are considered dead. In the past, Israel Hamas has accused Hamas, recordings and information about the hostages as a form of "Psychological Terror" to use Netanyahus government and to achieve a weapon arrival agreement.
pressure on the government
Almost weekly protests that call for the government to secure the release of the hostages took place throughout Israel, including near Netanyahus residents, often with relatives of the hostages. Last week, the pressure on Netanyahu intensified with the decision of the International Criminal Court, a search command against him.
