2027 World Cup in Montafon: A milestone for winter sports!

In 2027, the picturesque Montafon in Vorarlberg will be the venue for the long-awaited FIS World Championships in freestyle, freeski and snowboard. A whopping 29 gold medals are awarded at this massive event, including on the spectacular moguls. The first test events took place this weekend, which already provided highly emotional moments. Melanie Meilinger, once the face of Austria on the mogul slopes, was enthusiastic: “It was a really great event!” In her role as project coordinator for the Austrian Ski Association, she underlines the region's great interest in this sport and the support of the Montafon Ski Club and the valley associations, such as the Crown reports.

Competitive spirit and regional cooperation

Thanks to the cooperation between the ÖSV, the Ski Club Montafon, the municipalities, the state of Vorarlberg and Montafon Tourism, this World Cup will represent a real milestone for the region, says Roman Kuss from the ÖSV. The aim is to give a strong boost to winter sports and bring young people back to the mountains. Manuel Bitschnau, Managing Director of Montafon Tourismus, emphasizes that this award underlines the region's winter sports expertise. “The venues should be spread across the entire valley,” explains Jürgen Kuster, Mayor of Schruns, while the communities are behind the initiative Montafon.at reports.

The World Cup is not only a major sporting event, but also a “courageous initiative” in the eyes of Sports Councilor Martina Rüscher, which goes beyond economic and tourist reasons and sets an example for young people. This important winter sports event will once again bring Montafon into the international spotlight. In 2027 the region will become a hotspot for the international winter sports elite!
