VSV is rolling over FTC Budapest: The exciting start to the season of the ice hockey league!

On September 12, 2025, the new season of the Win2day Ice Hockey League began with an exciting opening game. The VSV competed against the newcomer to Liga FTC Budapest and prevailed 4-2. This encounter not only marked the first matchday, but also the first appearance of FTC Budapest in the league.

After just a few seconds, the VSV made its ambitions clear. Hutchison scored the first goal for the Budapesters in the 2nd minute. But FTC Budapest didn't stay long after. Wallenta increased to 2-0 in the 5th minute, which players and fans in their stadium enthusiastically fulfilled. However, the joy only lasted briefly, because Kestila scored the first goal in club history for FTC Budapest in the 8th minute and shortened to 1: 2.

Exciting first half

Uchan took the VSV 3-1 in the 14th minute. After the turbulent initial phase, however, the game slaughtered noticeably. Goal chances remained rare, and both teams found it difficult to play in the building game. In the course of the game, Scherbak scored another goal for VSV in the 50th minute, while Bengtsson scored a power play goal for Budapest in the 58th minute. The final score of 4: 2 for the VSV confirmed its strong performance in the first game of the season.

Overview of the seasonal structure

The regular season of the Win2day Ice Hockey League is held in two Round Robins. Each of the 13 teams plays a total of 48 games, and the entire season runs until the end of February. The teams that end up in places one to six after this phase reach the quarter -finals directly. The ranks seven to ten, on the other hand, have to compete in pre-playoffs "Best-of-3" to secure a place in the round of the last eight teams.

For the main round, this means that each team plays four times against the others, a total of 312 games are played. The playoffs, which are held in the "Best-of-7" format, then bring the tension of the elimination games in which any decision about victory or defeat can count. A tie after regular playing time leads to an endless Sudden-Death Objection in the elimination games.

The ice hockey league system in Germany, organized by the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB), includes several leagues. The highest league is the German ice hockey league (DEL), followed by the DEL2 and two upper leagues. The DEL was founded in 1994 and plays a central role in German ice hockey, as well as the nationwide amateur leagues among the regional associations.

With the start of the new season, the ICE Hockey League promises exciting, unpredictable encounters that will captivate both fans and players. The teams are ready to face the competition and to fight the coveted titles.
