Kapfenberg Bulls on the verge of elimination: change of coach and new addition should save!
There is currently a red alert for the Kapfenberg Bulls in Austrian basketball! This legendary team, once on top of the podium, is now fighting bitterly against relegation. The club is currently in a disappointing eighth place in the win2day Basketball Superliga and is in danger of clearly missing out on the top six. Six games before the end of the regular season, the Bulls are eight points behind, with a maximum of twelve points still achievable. Managing director Michael Stepwieser is struggling with the aftereffects of a bumpy start to the season and lists five narrow defeats that cost the Bulls the success they wanted.
The most recent coaching change did not come without turbulence: former coach Radomir Mijanovic had to leave on December 20th. His successor Klym Artamonov, once an assistant, also failed to win in four games. The sporting misery is clearly identified as a result of the weak defense, which allows an average of seven points more than the top 4 teams. The 25-year-old Argentine Lautaro Lopez, signed as the new leading player, is now expected to bring a breath of fresh air into Kapfenberger's game after he has not played a game in the current season. According to Stiefwieser, the squad will not remain unchanged: “Further changes cannot be ruled out,” he emphasizes.
