Great celebration atmosphere: 30 years of When the Music Plays” in Bad Kleinkirchheim!

On June 14, 2025, the 30th edition of the popular summer open-air “When the Music Plays” will take place in Bad Kleinkirchheim. This event is considered the largest folk music spectacle in the Alpine region and is organized by the organizers ORF and Adlmann Promotion. The line-up includes numerous renowned artists, including Hansi Hinterseer, the Nockis, the Junge Zillertaler and many more, who will invite the audience to celebrate. The event takes place against the picturesque backdrop of the Carinthian Nockberge, which further enriches the atmosphere and attracts visitors from the entire region.

A highlight of the event is the newly introduced “MUSI PARTY”, which will take place on June 11, 2025 with DJ Daniel Hülsenflitz. The all-inclusive concept offers guests a package starting at 89 euros, which includes food and drinks. This innovation could further increase attendance, surpassing the previous record of over 10,000 annual guests, with around 6,000 people expected on Saturday evening alone.

Kärntnermilch music hiking week

In addition to the musical program, the Kärntnermilch Music Hiking Week will take place from June 8th to 15th, 2025. Guided hikes are offered here, giving participants the opportunity to explore over 1,000 kilometers of marked hiking trails. Participation in the hikes is free, but mountain railway tickets must be purchased in order to make the ascent possible. This event not only promotes regional culture, but also tourism, resulting in an economic value of around 2.2 million euros for the region.

Folk culture and social responsibility

Another aspect that plays a role in the events is the promotion of Carinthian folk culture, which connects people and strengthens regional roots. The events also include high-quality choir concerts that raise funds for local aid organizations, including “Licht ins Dunkel” and “Kärntner in Not”. This ensures that every euro donated benefits the people of Carinthia and supports charitable causes.

The Summer Open Air Show will also be broadcast live on ORF 2, MDR and via internet streaming, so that a wider audience can be reached. A winter open-air event is planned for January 23rd and 24th, 2026, and Musi sun skiing with live music and regional enjoyment is scheduled to take place in March 2026.

Overall, the event promises not only musical enjoyment, but also a perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Carinthia while contributing to the local community.
