Aimee Lou Wood: Sarah Sherman sent her beautiful flowers after SNL impersonation
CNN - Sarah Sherman, a member of the "Saturday Night Live" cast, has reached out to her after her parody of "White Lotus" actress Aimee Lou Wood. This happened in the last episode of the popular sketch show, where Sherman Wood's character portrayed Chelsea in a satirical manner.
Controversial sketch causes excitement
In a now controversial skit titled "White POTUS," Wood spoke publicly about the appearance on her Instagram Story, calling it "mean and humorless." She shared a photo of a floral arrangement and thanked Sherman for the "beautiful flowers" that appeared in text above the image.
No blame on Sherman
After the skit, Wood made it clear on her Instagram Story that she didn't want to blame Sherman. She wrote: "I don't hate it, I hate the concept," adding that there needs to be a "clever, more nuanced and less cheap" way to criticize the show in a humorous way.
Contents of the sketch “White POTUS”
The pre-taped skit featured several current and former "SNL" members portraying President Donald Trump, his family and other Cabinet members on vacation in Thailand. This was done in reference to the plot of the current third season of “White Lotus”.
Criticism of a specific scene
Aimee Lou Wood, whose "natural smile" has been turning heads since the latest season of "Lotus" aired, specifically took issue with one part of the "White POTUS" sketch. In this scene, Jon Hamm, the episode's host, appeared as Robert F. Kennedy, who wondered what removing fluoride from drinking water would do to people's teeth. Sherman, sporting striking false teeth and a pronounced overbite, replied: “Fluoride, what is that?”
Public support for Wood
In her Instagram Story, Wood said she doesn't hold grudges and appreciates humor that is "clever and well-intentioned." However, she felt that "the rest of the skit hit up and me/Chelsea was the only one who got hit down". Wood also shared that she has now received "thousands" of messages of support applauding her for standing up for her portrayal. She also received “apologies” from “SNL,” but without specifying who from the show contacted her.
