Schwerin expects a volleyball highlight: SSC meets world champions Istanbul!
Schwerin – An exciting duel is coming! On Wednesday evening, SSC Palmberg Schwerin will face the Turkish volleyball elite, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit Istanbul, in the second group game of the CEV Champions League. The German record champions go into this encounter as outsiders, while the star squad from Istanbul arrive as reigning club world champions. But it is precisely this challenge that arouses anticipation in the Schwerin team!
After an exciting Champions League start in Paris, where they celebrated an impressive victory, and the painful cup loss in Suhl, SSC captain Anne Hölzig looks back on a mixed week. "Paris was a great experience, our first Champions League game. We mastered it confidently and had a lot of fun, even though there were few spectators. But the setback in Suhl was hard. Unfortunately, we couldn't take advantage of our chances in the cup." Nevertheless, the anticipation for the home game against Istanbul prevails: "A home game in the Champions League is always special, and then against such a top team. Players like Boskovic are absolutely world-class - it will be a challenge, but also a highlight."
Expectations are high!
Coach Felix Koslowski sees the key to success in the support of the spectators and the optimal form of his players on the day. "We are playing at home and the fans can create an atmosphere that can also impress a team like Istanbul. We have to go above and beyond on the field, on the bench and with the spectators to perhaps create a surprise." Despite respecting the opponent's strength, Koslowski remains combative: "Istanbul is full of world-class players like Boskovic and Hande Baladin. But we can also play volleyball and have the opportunity to make our mark with passion and a moment of surprise."
