Viennese amocran leads to panic: large police police!
On March 4, 2025, there were dramatic incidents in Vienna that reminded of true film scenes. According to a report by krone.at, a stolen van led to an alarming large contingent of the police in the heart of the city. A 35-year-old amok driver panicked in the busy pedestrian zone when he raced with the vehicle against the iconic plague column. Passers -by and tourists were looking for refuge in the surrounding shops, while the perpetrator, who was apparently mentally ill, tried to flee. The man, who showed 1.2 per thousand in an alcohol test, called the Islamist combat cry "Allahu Akbar" during his act. He was later arrested, with a brave pedestrian being injured.
Almost at the same time, another terrifying chase occurred on the busy south-east tangent. A Mercedes driver raced in zigzag over the city's main traffic artery at over 100 km/h until he could finally be stopped by the police, but only after a total of 16 shots from service. After escaping to an official building of the Ministry of the Interior, the driver escaped in the confusion, which caused the emergency services to lock the area and initiate a large search. Both men who are responsible for these amoking are now faced with long prison terms, as can be read in this report by krone.at.incidents in the context of terrorist threats
These events are overshadowed by the dark memory of the terrorist attack in Vienna from 2020, which took place on the evening before a nationwide lockdown. At that time, a perpetrator dressed in white opened the fire on passers-by and killed four people, including a 24-year-old German. He was later shot by the police after being involved in several fire battles. As the Wikipedia describes, everything happened in just nine minutes while the city was in turmoil. The incident led to an immediate large contingent of the security forces and a comprehensive examination, which revealed numerous mistakes in communication and cooperation between the authorities. The Commission found that the perpetrator, a 20-year-old IS sympathizer, was not sufficiently monitored in the Islamist scene despite his complicated past.
