Christmas miracles in the Westerwald: gifts for children find their way!
A somewhat bizarre incident in the Westerwald caused a stir: Christmas presents that were being transported in a car fell down on the side of the road. An attentive witness observed the scene and immediately informed the police. This secured the scattered packages in Bruchertseifen. At first it was unclear who the gifts were actually addressed to. Luckily, the sender, who had packed the packages as part of the “Christmas in a Shoebox” campaign, got in touch. Stefan Lück from Gebhardshain explained that the gifts were intended for needy children in Moldova. He and his family have long been committed to giving these children a happy holiday, reports SWR.
In the past, the region has already distinguished itself through various initiatives that help those in need in Eastern Europe. Bernd Kind, an 83-year-old volunteer from Gehlert, works tirelessly to help disadvantaged children in Ukraine and Moldova. Together with the local Kolping families, he has once again organized a large fundraising campaign, in which this year around 2,000 lovingly filled shoeboxes with sweets, hygiene products, school supplies and toys were put together. Bernd, who has already made more than 80 transport trips to the region, is planning the trip on January 2nd with his son Thilo in order to distribute the gifts in time for Orthodox Christmas on January 6th. His tireless efforts not only concern the direct provision of gifts, but also the emotional support of children in need Rhine newspaper is mentioned.
