Rioters threaten bouncers: Police use Taser!

On January 1, 2025, a threatening incident occurred at the Praterstern in Vienna when a heavily drunk 28-year-old Afghan citizen attacked a bar bouncer. Around 4 a.m., police were attracted by a group of men complaining about being barred from a bar. Officers quickly determined that the men had consumed significant amounts of alcohol, which created an aggressive atmosphere. The 28-year-old seemed to be so annoyed with the security guard that he finally picked up a glass bottle that was lying on the floor, broke it and threatened the bouncer with it. The situation escalated further and left the police officers no choice but to use a Taser to immobilize him, as krone.at reported.

The police response came despite several calls for the rioter to stop his aggressive behavior. When checking the man, who was suspected of intending to cause serious bodily harm, the police also found a small amount of drugs. After a medical examination in the hospital, the man was taken into police custody and then transferred to a prison on the orders of the Vienna public prosecutor. This shows again how alcohol-related escalations in public can end up being dramatic and potentially dangerous, as is the case with all of the news coverage vienna.at and krone.at becomes clear.
