Neo-Nazi demo in Friedrichshain: Police with a large contingent against protests

In a tense incident in Berlin-Friedrichshain, a right-wing extremist demonstration was ended prematurely. The event, which was under the motto "for law and order. Against left -wing extremism and politically motivated violence", attracted about 850 neo -Nazis. This number was significantly higher than with the previous demos, in which only 60 to 150 participants were present, such as Oe24.at reported. The police were used with a large contingent of around 1,500 forces to separate the elevator and the numerous counter -protests.

Already at the beginning of the demonstration there were violent clashes. Over 2,000 counter-demonstrators, who protested loudly against the neo-Nazi march, partially blocked the access routes. More than 40 arrests were reported, with the majority came from the right warehouse. Some participants did not adhere to the masking ban and were caught with unconstitutional symbols, such as the Hitler salute, which resulted in an immediate arrest, such as n-tv.de reported. A judge ordered the custody for three neo -Nazis, which symbolically came into the focus of the investigation.

randel and protests

The police could not prevent repeated wrangling between the two camps. Demonstrators tried to overcome police sirens and barriers, some of which led to the use of pepper spray. The atmosphere was shaped by increased tension, while the emergency services tried to keep control. According to police spokesman Florian Nath, there is no support for the content of either side, but only protect the freedom of assembly.

Overall, the meeting was accompanied by protests and resistance from the start, whereby the dream of the applicant to gather 1,200 participants was clearly missed. With the third neo-Nazi demonstration within a short time, however, concern for the activity of such groups in Berlin is growing, which is a further evidence of the increasing influence of extremist currents.
