In a shocking incident in New York, Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, was shot dead near busy Times Square on December 4th. The alleged perpetrator, Luigi M. (26), was caught just five days later in a fast food restaurant in Pennsylvania. When he was arrested, he was said to have had a handwritten manifesto with him in which he justified his act as a "symbolic blow" against corruption in the healthcare system, reports crown.

Due to the serious injuries he sustained in the attack, Thompson was taken to hospital, where he later died. During their investigation, the police discovered that Luigi M. was apparently not a customer of United Healthcare, which makes his motivation even more mysterious. Chief investigator Joseph Kenny said Luigi M. likely chose the company because of its position as one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States. The accusations against him are murder, and investigators are now faced with the challenge of determining the exact motives for this violent act The mirror reported.
