More security for Wiener Neustadt: security services should be strengthened!
The city of Wiener Neustadt is planning a significant expansion of the powers of its municipal security services in order to increase security, especially at the train station and in the city center. As the My district reports, State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner has advocated examining changes to the Lower Austria Police Penalty Act. “If passers-by feel uncomfortable in the city center in the evening, then we have to take action against these groups and give the population back a feeling of security,” explained Mikl-Leitner during a local inspection. Professionalizing the training of security services and equipping them with more skills are on the agenda. Mayor Klaus Schneeberger sees this measure as an opportunity to more effectively control illegal behavior.
The city has already undertaken various security initiatives together with the police. On November 18, 2024, Mayor Schneeberger emphasized the positive effects of regular presence and key actions to combat youth crime, which were also promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. “The structures are having an impact, but further steps are necessary,” says Schneeberger City of Wiener Neustadt holds on. The security patrols have already completed 759 hours of operation in heavily frequented locations.
Future actions and collaboration
The implementation of protection zones, video surveillance and increased police presence are part of the existing security strategy. In addition, regular checks are carried out in the pedestrian zones to ensure safety for citizens. The city of Wiener Neustadt is planning a permanent training initiative for the security services and the use of digital technologies to further improve the security architecture, as Schneeberger explained.
