At around 3:30 a.m., a passer-by called the police emergency number after she observed a loud argument between several people. When the police arrived, the situation initially seemed to ease, but several people involved had already been noticed with facial and hand injuries. The situation quickly escalated again when five of the ten people present became violent. The officers had to call for reinforcements because the aggressive people remained significantly aggressive despite repeated requests to keep their distance. In order to regain control, a police officer used pepper spray, which ultimately calmed the situation, but those present remained uncooperative. As the Vienna State Police Directorate reported, four people, including a 17-year-old and three men aged 22, 38 and 40, were treated for minor injuries and reported for racketeering.
