After the hotel staff intervened and issued a warning, the party guests ignored the warning, which led to an escalation. Witnesses reported aggressive behavior by the group, which harassed other guests and ultimately ended in a mass brawl. One onlooker of the scenes described the chaotic conditions as "like a theater of war" as security forces tried to bring the situation under control. The violence even continued outside the hotel, where participants threw stones at each other.
Police operation and investigations
Although the police were on site, they were hesitant to intervene. According to reports from Nova.rs, there were no charges filed after the escalation, but the Serbian public prosecutor's office has already taken action and launched an investigation to reconstruct the course of this tumultuous night. Security forces and hotel employees are being questioned, while the evaluation of the surveillance cameras also helps to clarify the situation. The cost of the damage to the hotel will be significant and the Viennese guests could potentially be held legally responsible.
A similar scenario occurred at the same time in the Düsseldorf luxury hotel Hyatt, where two families got into a heated argument in the hotel lobby. According to rtl.de, the officers were called to a large-scale operation. Rumors of an exchange of fire turned out to be false, but numerous heavily armed emergency services responded nonetheless. Five people were temporarily arrested, while seven others involved fled and are now being sought. The hotel employees are now confronted with the consequences of the violent confrontation and have to put the lobby back in order.
