Rules regarding travel time and breaks
The strict regulations on driving times, rest breaks and tracking using digital tachographs are crucial for road safety. Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, updated by Regulation (EU) 2024/1258, requires that the maximum driving time is limited to nine hours per day and that a break of at least 45 minutes must be taken after four and a half hours of continuous driving, according to a report by Eur-Lex emerges. Such regulations are intended not only to increase fairness for drivers, but also to increase road safety by ensuring that drivers are not overtired.
These recent incidents underline the urgency of consistently enforcing and monitoring strict regulations in the area of freight transport. The incident on the A2 shows how important it is that everyone involved follows the legal framework to ensure safety on the roads and protect the integrity of the transport industry.
