Horror in the Laaer-Berg-Bad: Five men harass teenage girls!

There was a worrying incident in Vienna's Laaer-Berg-Bad in which five men sexually harassed four young people around 2:15 p.m. The teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, were surrounded by the perpetrators in the wave pool and assaulted. The incident occurred during ongoing operation of the wave pool, when visibility was limited by the high waves and the large number of bathers. The suspected perpetrators took advantage of this to carry out their crimes unhindered. After the incident, the young people immediately contacted the pool staff, whereupon the pool attendant informed the police Cosmo reported.

The police were able to act quickly and identified two of the suspected perpetrators on site, who are 31 and 41 years old and of Bulgarian nationality. Both men deny the allegations and claim they do not know each other. They were reported for sexual harassment but remained at large. A search is also underway for three other suspects. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, South branch, has taken over the investigation, and in one case rape is suspected. The details of the incident are also alarming, as the young people were victims in a supposedly safe environment.

Young people's experiences with sexual harassment

The results of the study illustrate the need for intensive education about sexual harassment. Only 32% of those surveyed were informed about the dangers, and those affected often feel helpless or blame themselves for the attacks. Over 60% of children and young people use the Internet without restrictions, which further increases their vulnerability to such attacks. What is particularly alarming is that 56% of respondents do not know that cyber grooming is a criminal offense. In view of these results, it becomes clear that there is an urgent need for action to improve the protection of children and young people not only in the physical space, but also in the digital sphere. Further information on the results of the study can be found on the website SOS Children's Villages to find.

The events in the Laaer-Berg-Bad not only require quick action by the authorities, but also a comprehensive sensitization of society to the dangers of sexual harassment, both offline and online.
