Saarland and Moselle: Strengthen common security against disasters!
Saarland and the French department of Moselle are facing an exciting new era of cooperation! On Wednesday, in the picturesque setting of Otzenhausen, high-ranking representatives from politics, police and fire departments met to discuss important security issues and disaster protection strategies. The two regions have big plans to optimize their alerting and patrol systems, especially during major events.
A central issue was the joint alerting of the fire departments, which should be regulated more precisely. Support for risky sports games and the fight against illegal migration were also on the agenda. The need for a networked situation center to increase security in the border region was also discussed. The terrible experiences of the Pentecost flood were also discussed: Both sides are striving for closer cooperation in weather data transmission and advance warning in order to be able to better deal with future disasters. The results of these discussions are to be implemented into a binding set of rules this year!
Police cooperation is well on the way
The cross-border conference was not only an exchange of strategies, but also an opportunity to get to know the respective systems and decision-making processes better. Thorsten Weiler, President of the State Police Headquarters, emphasized that the cooperation with the French police forces was already working well. However, one major obstacle remains: “The language skills on both sides could be improved,” says Weiler. This is the only area where there are still difficulties in operational cooperation.
The results of the conference are recorded in a declaration of intent that defines regular exchanges and clear responsibilities. Interior Minister Reinhold Jost (SPD) explained: “We not only want to draw up a contract, but also ensure through continuous communication that everyone knows who they are dealing with.” This initiative could revolutionize security in the border region!
